Friends are gathering to host a barbecue benefit for Port Neches Middle School student Jake Plante who was injured in a fall in November.

The benefit will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday across from 1107 Port Neches Ave. in Port Neches. Barbecue plates including drink will be sold for $10, Jade Davila, an organizer, said. There will also be live entertainment, a car show and raffle.

Plante, 13, was playing at a local park when he fell 30 feet and shattered his pelvis. He has been in and out of Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston and medical and other expenses are mounting.

Davila, who along with Mandy LaMountain, helped organize the benefit, said doctors believe Plante will fully recover but the road will be long.

“A friend of a friend asked me to help out and I’m just paying it forward,” he said. “It cold have been any one of our kids. It’s great for the community to come together like this.”

Organizers have received numerous donations from area businesses to help with the benefit.

The Southeast Texas Jeepers group and Rat Rods will be at the event as well as music.

“The response from the community has been overwhelming,” he added.

Spnsors include Guardian MC, Bandidos MC Jefferson County, Los Malon MC, Nash-Rankin Allstate Agency, Mid-County Auto Supply Inc., Golden triangle Emergency Center and Classic BBQ.
