Bulldogs split at Brenham Showcase
BRENHAM — The Nederland Bulldogs went 1-1 Saturday to finish off their portion of the Brenham Showcase.
The Bulldogs (2-2-3) first grabbed a 3-1 win over La Porte.
Jace Edgar scored Nederland’s first goal of the match off an assist from Jaime Moreno. Edgar then scored again to make it 2-0 off a corner from Mark Byars.
Travis Wiedenfeld scored the Bulldogs last goal of the match.
Nederland then dropped a 3-1 decision to Calhoun.
Daniel Luketich scored the Bulldogs lone goal off an assist from Edgar.
“We played our best game against La Porte and then had our worst against Calhoun,” Nederland coach Torrey Gomez reported. “They (Calhoun) scored on just about every chance they created whereas we created a number of chacnes and didn’t convert.”
Gomez also said in a text the Bulldogs were tired after playing four games in about 24 hours.
Nederland returns to the field Friday, Jan. 29 when the team hosts Vidor to start District 22-5A play.
Indians shutout Calhoun
BRENHAM — The Port Neches-Groves Indians got another shutout from keeper Bryce Meche and a game-winning goal from Colton Stone to defeat Calhoun Saturday at the Brenham Showcase.
Meche now has 52 shutouts in his career and is nine away from tying the state record of 61 held by Brenham’s Zach Riffett.
The Indians (6-1-2) started District 22-5A play on Friday, Jan. 29 at Baytown Lee.
