Charlene Emerson Linney

Charlene Emerson Linney, 81, of Nederland, died Friday, February 12, 2016. She was born on May 9, 1934, in Hinds, Mississippi, to Hilda Ross Spencer and Charles Judson Spencer.

Charlene moved to Refugio in 1946 and graduated from Refugio High School in 1952. She worked at the Refugio Hospital while in high school and afterwards worked for the First National Bank of Refugio. After Charlene moved into the area and when her oldest child was two years old, she went to work for the Port Neches Bank. She owned a plaster business for twenty years and was a cafeteria manager at Helena Park for fifteen years. Charlene enjoyed arts and crafts, working in her garden, and volunteering. She was a member of Blue Angel Volunteers, the Red Hat Society and Order of The Eastern Star. Charlene will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Survivors include her husband of eight years, Scotty Linney of Nederland; daughters, Joy Emerson Huebel and her husband, Al, of Austin and Gaylyn Emerson Straley and her husband, Terry, of Nederland; sons, Chip Emerson and his wife, Marita, of The Woodlands; Chuck Emerson and Tommy Emerson and his wife, Mary, both of Fannett; and Tim Emerson and his wife, Cherise, of Nederland; daughter-in-law, Stacey Emerson of Nederland; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom Spencer and his wife, Gwen, of Bakersfield, California and Frank Spencer and his wife, Audrey, of Round Rock; and step-children, Carol, Danny, Dennis, and Lisa.

She is preceded in death by her parents, C.J. and Mama Jack; husband of thirty-five years, Kenneth Emerson; and sister, Sadie Cooper.

A gathering of Mrs. Linney’s family and friends will be 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 15, 2016, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12thStreet, Nederland. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
