Russell Alfred Merrell III

Russell Alfred Merrell III, 57, of Nederland, passed away suddenly on February 14, 2016. Known to many as “Rusty”, he was born on March 31, 1958, in Port Arthur, to Russell “Buster” and Lila Faye Merrell.
Rusty is a graduate of Nederland High School class of 1976. He worked as an insulator with Local 22 out of Houston. Rusty enjoyed the outdoors and he could be found fishing on nearby lakes when he was not working. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Charles Catholic Church in Nederland. Rusty will be remembered as a hard worker, a good friend, and a good son.
Survivors include his father, Russell Merrell, Jr.; brothers, David Merrell and his wife, Sherrie, of Nederland and Kenneth Merrell and his wife, Jennifer, of Center; sisters, Glenda Munson and her husband, William, of Boerne and Mary Hensley and her husband, Bo, of Wichita, Kansas; nephews, Luke Merrell of Center, Spanky Hensley and his fiance’, Shauna and Justin Hensley and his wife, Amber, all of Amarillo; nieces, Renee’Bulliom and her husband, Bryan, of Nederland; Meredith Vance and her husband, Lloyd, of Katy; and Holli Merrell of Vidor; great-nephews, Blake Vance of Katy, Zachary Bullion of Nederland, and Camden Hensley of Amarillo; and great-niece Rylie of Amarillo.
A Rosary will be recited for Mr. Merrell, with a gathering of family and friends to follow, at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 18, 2016, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with his interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
