Mary Alice McFadden Nicholson

Mary Alice McFadden Nicholson was born the fourth child of Londell McFadden and Alice Cary McFadden on January 4, 1944, in Washington, Arkansas. Mary’s early childhood and adolescence was spent in Texarkana, Texas. She was baptized and nurtured in the Polly Chapel Baptist Church. After graduating from Dunbar High School in Texarkana, she went on to receive her Bachelors and Masters Degree in education from Prairie View A & M University.
Her life was dedicated to the education of children and after 30 years of teaching, she retired from the Port Arthur Independent School District. She was a dedicated and committed member of the Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Londell and Alice McFadden; and siblings Gladys McFadden Martin, Eugene A. McFadden, Mother-in -law Juanita Nicholson and sister-in-law Marshall Jean Nicholson, niece, Jacqueline Patrick, and nephew Kenneth Martin.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Kimberly Elise Nicholson Jones, (Felix Jones, Jr.) of Beaumont, TX and Richard Vonell Nicholson, III (Detra M. Nicholson) of Houston, TX; her brothers:  Joe Stanley (Rae) of Ft. Worth, TX, and Gary McFadden (Ann) of Arlington, TX;  7 grandchildren; a very special niece, Angie Edwards and her children; a host of nieces, nephews, 8 godchildren; other relatives and friends.
Homegoing celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
