BAYTOWN — The Nederland Bulldogs rebounded from Wednesday’s loss to Port Neches-Groves with a 7-1 win over Baytown Lee Friday.

Chase Kemp led the Bulldogs (12-10, 7-4 in 22-5A) going at both the plate and on the mound.

Kemp pitched six innings for Nederland and gave up two hits with one run and nine strikeouts. He was 1 for 3 at the plate with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

Kody Kolb was 3 for 4 with a run, Austin Krautz had two runs scored and Zack Friesz was 2 for 2 with a run scored and a RBI.

The Bulldogs host Goose Creek Memorial at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Vidor Pirates defeated the Patriots 7-2 Friday.

Goose Creek’s loss puts PN-G a half-game ahead of the Patriots for first in the District 22-5A standings. PN-G hosts Ozen at noon today.

PN-G 16, VIDOR 4

VINTON, La. — It took three days and a trip over the Texas/Louisiana border for the Port Neches-Groves Lady Indians to defeat the Vidor Lady Pirates.

PN-G defeated Vidor Friday 16-4 in a game that was first scheduled for Tuesday but was pushed back because of bad weather. The two teams finally got the game in but were forced to play at Vinton High School.

Kaitlyn Boudreaux was 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, two stolen bases and a RBI for PN-G (21-7, 12-2). Rachel Hammersmith was 2 for 3 with three runs, two RBI and a stolen base and Avery Hooks was also 2 for 4 with two runs and a RBI double. Callie Jourdan finished 2 for 3 with two runs and a RBI double and Alexis LaBure was 2 for 2 with two RBI and two runs. Brooke Smith hit a triple, Marlee Barnett had a double and Caitlyn Scott hit a double.

The Lady Indians jumped out to a 10-3 lead after the first inning and then tacked on four runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to finish the game off on the mercy rule.

Britni Hunt struck out one batter in the first inning and LaBure had six strikeouts in four innings of work.

PN-G is now a half-game ahead of Nederland in the District 22-5A standings.

BRIDGE CITY 19, WEST ORANGE-STARK 1

WEST ORANGE — Only the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks now stand in the way from the red-hot Bridge City Lady Cardinals, who can wrap up their District 24-4A Championship run with a perfect district record after the Lady Cardinals strummed the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 19-1 in three innings at Lady Mustang Field Friday night.

The Lady Cardinals (11-0 in 24-4A play) will close out the regular season at home today against Hardin-Jefferson at 11 a.m.

The Lady Cardinals had no problems against the Lady Mustangs, who slipped to 0-11 in 24-4A play.

Bridge City picked up 10 hits in the lopsided victory.

Abby Anderson paced the Lady Cardinals at the plate, going 3 for 4 with three runs scored.

Kassidy Wilbur was 2 for 3, scored three runs and drove in another.

Peyton Trapp, who also got the win on the hill by allowing just two hits, was 1 for 3 at the plate with a double and three RBI. Hanna Carpenter was 1 for 3 and scored twice.

Meagan Sourdellia and Abby Faulk each went 1 for 3 and scored. Baili Thibodaux was 1 for 4 and scored twice.

Caitlin Denison and Lauren Groom each scored three runs apiece.
