BEAUMONT — Orangefield football coach Josh Smalley always has the pleasure of facing the West Orange-Stark Mustangs in District 9-4A Division II.

Smalley on June 11 gets to coach three Mustangs in part of the Christus All-Star Classic. The teams of five sports were announced Friday by the Southeast Texas Coaches’ Association.

The association has put on all-star games for six years. This is the second year Christus has sponsored the event.

SETCA will host a softball game at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at LU Softball Complex. Volleyball kicks off a busy day Friday, June 10 at 5 p.m. with girls basketball and boys basketball to follow at East Chambers High School in Winnie. The football game will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Provost Umphrey Stadium.

Smalley will coach the East team and gets the chance to coach up WO-S receiver/defensive back Aric Cormier, linebacker Steven Tims and offensive lineman Triston Scott.

“It is an honor for me and my staff,” Smalley said. “It is a tribute to the things we have done over the last three to four years. It is going to be nice to meet some of the people from the bigger classifications that you always hear about but you don’t get the chance to play.

“You get to coach the kids you get to coach against. It will be nice to coach some kids from West Orange instead of coaching against those kids from West Orange all the time. It is a blessing to be a part of this.”

Orangefield has two players on the roster in Matthew Watkins and Brandon Bray.

Nederland offensive lineman/tight end Justin Carr and defensive lineman Vincent Tran will represent Nederland. Fabbian Scott and Kevin Williams will represent Port Arthur Memorial.

The association also announced player of the year honors in each sport.  Port Neches-Groves senior goalie Bryce Meche won Boys Soccer Player of the Year and Nederland’s Jayci Wong won Girls Tennis Player of the Year.
