Celestine eighth in 6A triple jump

Port Arthur Memorial junior J’Koven Celestine’s bid for a medal at the Class 6A Track and Field Championships came up short Friday at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin.

Celestine finished in eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, 11.75 inches. He made the jump on his second attempt after a foul on his first try. The longest Celestine went in his final four attempts was 46-6.

Dexter Neboh of Odessa Permian won the triple jump with a leap of 49-5.25.

The best finish for any Southeast Texas competitor on Friday was second place for Vidor’s Samuel Taylor in the high jump. Taylor leaped 6-6.

Bridge City’s Kaitlin Taylor finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 38-7.25 and Orangefield’s Brooklyn Goldsmith was eighth in the pole vault at 10-6.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Trey Guillory finished seventh in the Class 4A triple jump at 44-8.75. Julian Perez of West Brook placed ninth in the 3,200 meter run with a finish of 9:45.79.

Shania Ford of Central was seventh in the 800-meter run at 2:18.08 and the Jaguars’ 4×200 meter relay boys team finished eighth with a time of 1:28.08.
