A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Paris Bennette Jr. for the May 10 murder of Patrick Louis Guidry on Wednesday.
Bennette is charged with the murder of Guidry, 35, at Port Arthur Park Apartments, 1348 Jefferson Drive.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the men were sitting in a stairwell at the apartment complex with Bennette sitting behind Guidry. “For no apparent reason” Bennette stood up and slashed the victim’s neck, killing him. The suspect left the scene on foot but about two hours later went to the police station and spoke with investigators. He was later arrested and charged with the murder.
Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin set Bennette’s bond at $1 million.
An indictment is not a final conviction of guilt; it is only a ruling by the grant jury that allows the district attorney’s office to proceed with a criminal case.
