Louise “LuLu” Melancon

Louise “LuLu” Melancon 96, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on May 13, 2016 at her residence in Port Arthur. She was born November 7, 1919 to the late Nelson Melancon and Mary Melancon.

Louise attended Lincoln High School and graduated in 1940. She worked for Doctor Dixon a local dentist as his dental assistant for 33 years. She was a life-long faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a part of numerous organizations. (Ladies Auxiliary, Home Demonstration Club, Legion of Mary, Golden Age Group, Special Historians Project Committee) She was a member of Sacred Heart-St. Mary Parish for 96 years and was awarded this year for being the oldest member of the church.

The oldest of seven siblings, Louise is preceded in death by her brothers, William Melancon and Edward Melancon, her sisters Edna Melancon Berry and Wilda Melancon Welch ; two nieces, JoAnne Berry and Barbara Berry.

Left to cherish her memory: sister’s Ethel Melancon Barros and Nola Melancon Smith, Nephews Joseph Berry, David Berry and Marvin Smith Jr. Nieces, Deborah Barros, Mary Denise Barros, Janet Barros Burrell, Jaqueline Barros Kinlaw, Kathleen Welch Wilcott, Jana Welch and Laura Welch and a multitude of great nephews and nieces and honorary family member Anthony Crook.

A wake will be held on Friday May 20, 2016 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Gabriel Funeral Home in Port Arthur, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart- St. Mary Parish in Port Arthur with a burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
