PORT NECHES — A stabbing inside a Port Neches home led to nine children being removed by Child Protective Services on Monday.

The stabbing was reportedly triggered during an argument about injuries to a four-month-old child.

Port Neches Police Chief said officers were called to a stabbing in the 100 block of Sycamore Street around 11 p.m. June 20. Four adults and nine children live at the home and there are three families with three children per family.

In addition, there is an older couple staying in a trailer that assists with caring for the children who range in age from four months to seven-years-old. During the domestic violence incident four of the children were staying in the trailer with the older couple.

“The incident began when the mother of the four-month-old returned home and went upstairs to check on her three children. The mother noticed that her four-month-old was laying on the bed crying,” Lemoine said. “She picked him up and noticed that there was blood on the bed and on the child’s mouth. She questioned her husband and he told her that the child had fallen off the bed.”

The mother did not believe the story and they began to ague. She then took the child downstairs away form the father, he said.

The sister of the child’s mother, who is 24-years-old, overheard the argument and confronted the 50-year-old child’s father about the injuries.

“During the argument she picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed him I the left shoulder,” he said.

Acadian EMS arrived on scene and the man refused medical treatment. The child was also examined and had injuries not consistent with a fall. He had several older bruises to his lower back and several cuts in and around his mouth. The child was brought to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas for treatment.

The child’s aunt was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and also had four outstanding warrants.

Charges have not been brought against the child’s father at this time.

Shari Pulliam, media specialist with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, said CPS has taken custody of six children and three children have been placed with an appropriate family member.

“They are all doing fine,” Pulliam said. “CPS will continue to investigate alongside law enforcement. This remains an open investigation.”
