BPD mourns loss of K-9 Nicky

BEAUMONT — The Beaumont Police Department has lost a 4-legged brother in blue, K-9 “Nicky.”

Nicky passed away quietly at his home in early morning hours on Sunday, June 26, 2016.

K-9 Nicky was seven and half years old and has worked for the Beaumont Police Department for three and half years, according to a press release from BPD.

Nicky was a loyal partner to his handler Officer Boudreaux and a valued member of the K-9 unit. During his three and half years at Beaumont, K-9 Nicky worked primarily first watch patrol and was responsible for locating and apprehending numerous felony suspects along with many narcotic seizures.

“He was a trusted colleague, beloved partner and friend. He will surely be missed,” according to the press release. “Thank you K-9 Nicky for all your hard work and rest in peace.

A necropsy will be conducted, which is equivalent to an autopsy and lab tests will be conducted to help determine exact cause of death.
