Kirby Wheeler DuBose

Kirby Wheeler DuBose age 79 passed away July 4th 2016. He was born in Indian Bayou, LA. He attended the University Of Southwestern LA. He moved to Port Arthur, TX in 1957 where he was employed by DuPont in Orange, TX for 35 years.

He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He was actively involved in his community. He coached Little League baseball for many years, and when he no longer coached he continued to be involved in Little League as an official in the administration. He was a member of the Evening Optimist Club. As part of the Optimist Club his favorite fundraiser was selling Christmas trees. He enjoyed it so much he continued to sell the trees even after the club disbanded.

He was a jokester and a prankster and no one was safe.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary Helen DuBose, daughters Stacy DuBose and Brandi Rayburn, son-in-law James Rayburn, grandchildren Taylor Mahaffey, Schon Rayburn, and Teya Rayburn, sisters Syble Brouillette and Joann Foreman, brothers Billy DuBose, JK DuBose and his wife Shirley DuBose, Donnie DuBose and his wife Rose DuBose, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son Todd DuBose, his parents Kirby and Winnie DuBose, brothers Calvin and Mims DuBose, sister Margie DuBose, sisters-in-law Mattie DuBose, Gloria (Sissy) DuBose and Judith Price, brothers-in-law Ronald Garrett, Irving Brouillette, and Kimball Foreman.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A service to honor Kirby’s life will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Thursday, July 7, 2016 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
