The local movement continues for Lamar baseball coach Will Davis.
Lamar picked up two verbal commitments from local seniors this week in Port Neches-Groves’ Josh Hranicky and Nederland’s Brendon Dunkleberger.
Hranicky threw 16 innings for the Indians last season and finished with a 3-0 record. He had 30 strikeouts, seven walks and a 2.18 ERA. The Indians finished the year 22-8 and reached the second round of the playoffs.
Dunkleberger tossed 29 innings and struck out 37 with 17 walks. He finished with a 3.86 ERA.
The Bulldogs went 15-15 overall and missed the postseason.
Dunkleberger makes it three players that play for Mid-County teams from the 2017 class to commit to Lamar. He joined Nederland’s Chase Kemp and PNG’s Logan LeJeune, as well as Silsbee’s Chase Partain.
Hranicky is an incoming junior at PNG.
Davis’ first full class for the 2017 baseball season included six local players: Payton Robertson from West Orange-Stark, Tod McDowell of Bridge City, Zack Friesz of Nederland, Lance LeDoux and Cole Girouard both from PNG and Ryan Johnson from Hamshire-Fannett. LeDoux is a transfer from Panola College in Carthage.
