VOLLEYBALL BRIEFS: Bulldogs improve to 2-0 in District 22-5A

The Nederland Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in District 22-5A with a three-set sweep Tuesday of Central.
Nederland (11-15) won the match 25-13, 25-17 and 25-17.
Katelynn Huckabay led the Bulldogs with 10 kills while Hannah Smith added eight and two blocks.
Peyton Parker finished with six kills and two blocks, Blake MacFarlane had six kills and Amanda Longlet finished with eight kills, six digs and three blocks.
Abbey Montalvo finished with a game-high 36 assists to go along with five kills and Darcie Jones added 15 digs and four aces. Caly Holyfield put iin nine digs and four aces.
“The girls played very well tonight,” coach Kristin Lemoine said. “They are continuing to progress and challenge each other. I am very proud of their performance all-around.”
Nederland hosts PNG at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

ROCK-A-NOOS SWEEP
PAST PIRATES

The Port Neches-Groves Rock-A-Noos swept the Vidor Pirates ahead of Friday’s showdown in Nederland.
PNG (2-0) knocked off Vidor 25-14, 25-15 and 25-10.
Cheyanne Orozco led the Rock-A-Noos with 14 service points and she also had nine kills. Rachel Hammersmith finished with 12 points and Libbie LeJeune added 10. LeJeune finished with 18 digs and seven kills.
Bayja Newby had 18 digs, Baylee Priddy had 20 assists, Hannah Jones finished with 10 kills and Elizabeth Bolyard had seven.
Jones, Kaitlyn Gil and Kailey Oliver each had three blocks.
The Rock-A-Noos travel to face Nederland Friday at 6:30 p.m.

TITANS FALL TO
RAIDERS IN FOUR

The Port Arthur Memorial Titans fell to the Lumberton Raiders in four sets Tuesday.
Lumberton won the match 23-25, 25-13, 25-13 and 25-17.
Memorial (0-2) hosts Central at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

EAGLES EVEN
DISTRICT RECORD

At Bob Hope School, the Eagles blew a 2-0 lead but came back to beat Anahuac in five games.
Bob Hope won the opening sets 25-18 and 25-9 before the Panthers came back to grind out 25-20 and 25-17 wins. Bob Hope won the deciding fifth game 15-8.
The Eagles improved to 13-7 overall and 1-1 in District 23-3A.
