Vernon Ray Gibson, Sr., 84, of Port Acres, Texas passed away Wednesday, September 21st 2016 at The Medical Center of SETX in Port Arthur, Texas.

He was born on September 22nd 1931 in Bon Weir, Texas to the late Jim Gibson and Irene Doughtry Gibson. Vernon served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He retired from Arco Polymers after over 30 years of service as a boilermaker. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church, Port Arthur, Texas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Irene Menard Gibson of Bridge City; daughters, Sharon Kay Adams & Larry of Spurger, Texas, Patricia Ann Nolan & Leonard of Hemphill, Texas, June Alice Barbosa & Lionel of Port Acres, Texas & Janice Faye Bucklin & George of Port Acres, Texas; son, Vernon Ray Gibson, Jr. & Vicki of Gonzales, Louisiana; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Carl Burks & Dorothy of Ore City, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; half-sisters, Bernice Williams and Dorothy Lee Travis; twin sister, Vera Mae Newman.

There will be a gathering of family and friends Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. The interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, TX. under the direction of Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, TX.
