GROVES — Oak Groves Nursing Home is gearing up to share blessings with others during the holidays.

The facility, 6230 Warren St. in Groves, is accepting donations of nonperishable food through the week of Thanksgiving. After that they will collect toys for children age 16 and under as part of their Toy Feast. All donations for both holidays will be given to the Salvation Army.

Bobbie Buss, activities director at Oak Grove, said she has been talking to residents there and they wanted to help the community.

Two, decorative boxes sit near the font doors of the facility and as of earlier in the week were near full. Buss plans to break out a bigger box to hold more donations.

“We have morning meetings and I brought this (food donations) and Toy Feast for December,” Buss said. “We have letters on the doors to inform visitors and have sent letters to families of the residents.”

Daniel Duplechin, an administrator, is happy to be part of the project to help others.

“I think this is great,” Duplechin said. “We’re fortunate enough to be able to give a little extra to those who don’t have it.”

The nursing home will host a Thanksgiving dinner for residents and their families on Nov. 17 and hope visitors will bring their donations when they come that day or earlier.
