Homeowner fires shots at burglar, is cut on glass door

A homeowner who saw a person trying to burglarize his home fired shots at the suspect and ended up with minor cuts when he struck a sliding glass door late Sunday night.

Police were called out at 11:49 p.m. Jan. 1 to the 1200 block of Rev. Raymond Scott Avenue for a man who said he had been shot. Officers learned the man had not actually been shot, but had been cut.

The incident began after the homeowner went out the back sliding glass door of his home to check out some noises. He did not see anyone in the yard but heard a gunshot and started firing shots into his privacy fence in the direction of the suspect and as the homeowner ran inside his home he struck the back sliding glass door which cause minor lacerations, according to a press release from the Port Arthur Police Department.

The suspect was not located and the homeowner was sent to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas for minor lacerations.

Detectives with PAPD are investigating the incident.
