Port Arthur Independent School District trustee Debra Ambroise is organizing a get together for everyone in the community and for elementary school and school district officials.
Ambroise calls the event TEA with a Trustee and it will be held Thursday from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Memorial High School common area.
Ambroise said TEA is an acronym for Together Everyone Achieves, and that’s the point of the event: unity.
“We can all learn together and achieve as one,” she said.
She pointed out that the school has facilities and resources that are used by students, but some of those resources could be used by parents, too.
“We’re here and we’re all in this together,” she said. “It’s not you or me or him, it’s us.”
In addition, she said parents are invited to come and meet teachers and administrators.
“Each elementary school will be represented,” she said. “They’ll have their PTA and other school organizations. Every parent and student will have an opportunity to visit with their school representatives. They can come in and meet administrators, the superintendent, teachers and everyone will be there.”
Ambroise added that if anyone has any questions that cannot be answered immediately, they may fill out a card and someone will get back to them with answers.
She is planning to organize another TEA with Trustees event aimed at the high school families, but that one will happen after spring break. In addition, she said she would like these events to be annual.
There’s only one rule.
“This is not a gripe session,” said Ambroise. “This is a come together session.”
And, she added, she hopes everyone does come—not just parents of students.
“If it takes a village then to raise a child, well, then, the whole village needs to come out to the meeting,” she said.
Memorial High School is located at 3501 Sgt. Lucian Adams Drive.
