NEDERLAND — A little bit of luck can strike a team in any fashion.

For Port Neches-Groves, it was bad luck against Nederland that gave the Indians a great start in Tuesday’s girls soccer rivalry game.

Nederland kicked into its own goal and Mia Delgadillo scored, giving the Indians the goals they needed in a 2-1 win at Bulldog Stadium. PNG improved to 15-2-1 and 8-2 in District 22-5A, putting the Indians in first place.

Libbie LeJeune made six saves in the win.

Nederland dropped to 13-2-2 and 6-2-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

PA MEMORIAL 6, CENTRAL 0

BEAUMONT — Memorial dominated the offensive end with 21 shots on goal and prevented Central from taking one Wednesday in a blowout victory.

Guadalupe Contreras scored two goals to lead the Titans (8-6-1, 5-5 in District 22-5A). Karina Terrazas, Arianna Fernandez and Yatari Morales also scored.

Memorial visits PNG at 5 p.m. Friday.

SOFTBALL

NEDERLAND 11, LUMBERTON 0, 5 INN.

LUMBERTON — Destiny Trahan threw a one-hit gem in five innings on the road, giving the Bulldogs (6-7) a 1-0 start in 22-5A play.

Trahan confused the Raiders bats for 11 strikeouts, and Nederland’s offense backed her up with 11 runs, including seven in the fifth, on 12 hits. Hannah Goode went 3 for 4, and Bailey Beard, Levi Eversole and Trahan each had two hits. Eversole drove in two runs, while Hannah Smith, Hannah Grumbles, Goode, Beard and Trahan each batted in one.

Gracie Gulley had Lumberton’s only hit.

BEAUMONT — Well, that was fast.

The Indians managed 24 runs off 15 hits and 10 Ozen errors to wrap up their first 22-5A game of the season in three innings. Kasidee Sartin played a big role in the onslaught with an inside-the-park home run, while Alexis LaBure tripled as part of a 3-for-4, three-RBI game. LaBure also scored three runs.

Kaitlyn Boudreaux and Callie Jourdan each doubled, Rachel Hammersmith scored four runs and stole two bases while batting 2 for 4, Bailey Crorey drove in three runs and scored in a 2-for-3 outing, and Marlee Barnett batted in two runs on one hiut.

Britni Hunt struck out six and did not allow a hit in the win.
