Beaumont Central baseball coach Horace Gordon said Wednesday the District 22-5A executive committee’s overturn of his team’s victory over Port Arthur Memorial on March 28 was “a lesson well learned.”
Gordon responded to an email for comment one day after the committee decided Central should forfeit the 11-5 win in Port Arthur to Memorial because Central’s starting pitcher exceeded the maximum pitch count of 110. Documentation from the game revealed the pitcher tossed 124.
“It’s a lesson well learned and I take full responsibility,” Gordon said. “In my opinion the pitch count had no impact on the win, the game was a blowout. I respect the UIL committee and their decision.”
Memorial hosts Vidor at 6 tonight.
