NEDERLAND — Jessica Saenz nearly struck out the minimum of batters through four innings Wednesday.

She tossed 11 Ks against 13 Port Arthur Memorial batters, allowing a hit and walking one, and Nederland backed her up with plenty of offense Wednesday in a 15-0 home rout to wrap up the District 22-5A title.

The game was a continuation of Tuesday’s scheduled District 22-5A contest, which was paused by rain.

Saenz struck out three Memorial batters twice each. The 13 batters she faced was just one more than the minimum, but she got the job done in only 58 pitches.

Hannah Smith and Madelyn Daniel each had two hits, and Victoria Garza added another for the Bulldogs. Smith and Daniel each had two hits, with Bailey Beard, Kara Litchfield, Amanda Longlet and Garza each driving in a run.

Litchfield scored three runs, and Hannah Goode and Beard each had two.

Nederland (21-10-1, 13-1 in 22-5A) has yet to announce its first playoff game.

LIVINGSTON — Chase Kemp had a single and double, but two strong innings helped Livingston dominate Nederland in Wednesday’s district game.

Kemp drove in the game’s first run in the first inning, and neither team scored until the Lions posted three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings.

Nederland (11-12-2, 7-4 in 22-5A) will host Livingston at 7 tonight.
