Dr. Joyce Ann “Joy” Pardue died peacefully on April 15, 2017. She was in the arms of her husband Larry at her home in Shepherdstown, WV.
She was the daughter of the late Horace Delbert Halford and Dorothy Lorene Halford. She was born August 6, 1942 in Goose Creek, Texas, but lived most of her childhood in Blytheville, Arkansas.
She graduated from Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma, where she met the love of her life, Larry Pardue.
She and Larry both graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. They practiced in New Orleans for 26 years. After semi-retiring they worked locum tenens assignments in several states and foreign countries. She traveled around the world as a mental-health professional on a Semester at Sea voyage.
She and her husband settled in Shepherdstown, WV, because she loved the area and the people. She thought it was the best place she had ever lived.
She was a life-long learner and through travel enjoyed numerous art galleries, museums, beautiful music, and scenery. She also loved nature and was a gardener, canoeist, kayaker, and hiker. She enjoyed a friendly game of bridge and savored challenging Scrabble games.
She said she had accepted God into her life and had no fears about her future.
She is survived by her husband Larry, their son Loren Edwin, and grandson Larry Douglas Pardue, as well as her sister Gwennie Halford Ahlemann (John). Joy was personally very close to her sister-in-law Shirley Pardue McFatter (Curtis).
Her nieces and nephews include Read Ahlemann, Morgan Morgan, David McFatter, Kathy Nelson, Kay Davis, Steve Pardue, Keith Pardue, Patrick Pardue, Danny Pardue, and Dawn Estep.
She was grateful to Hospice for adding substantial quality of life to the closing months of her life. She asks that any donations in her name be made to Hospice of the Panhandle or Semester at Sea associated with Colorado State University.
Her life will be celebrated at the Shannondale Springs Chapel in Harpers Ferry, WV on May 6, 2017 at 2:00PM.
