Alleged car thief arrested after brief chase

Bonds are set at $17,500 for a Port Arthur man accused of stealing a vehicle from Nederland and leading law enforcement on a brief chase on Tuesday.

Corey Flemings, 26, is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading detention in a motor vehicle.

Jefferson County Traffic Enforcement Unit was working traffic at 7:42 a.m. on Interstate 10 when they saw a 2008 Land Rover heading westbound that had been reported stolen in Nederland less than 20 minutes earlier.

Deputies tried to stop the stolen vehicle but the driver failed to comply, according to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. After a brief chase, the vehicle came to a stop near Mile Marker 842 at which time the driver was arrested.

The vehicle was released to the owner.
