Officer assaulted during arrest, suspect escapes

On Tuesday evening a Port Arthur police officer was assaulted during the course of an arrest.
According to a press release, at approximately 8:25 p.m., an officer from the Port Arthur Police Department responded to 2119 Waverly Circle in reference to a family disturbance. The officer was in the process of arresting the suspect, John Johnson Jr., when Johnson allegedly began punching the officer. The officer used a TASER to subdue the suspect, however the suspect was able to break free from the TASER and escape.
The officer was transported to the Medical Center and treated for minor injuries and this case remains under investigation.
