L. Troy Kerr

L. Troy Kerr, 69, of Port Arthur, died Friday, July 7, 2017, at Lake Arthur Place Nursing and Rehabilitation in Port Arthur. He was born October 12, 1947, to Ruby Mae Owens Kerr and Willie Julius Kerr, Sr. in Garrison, Texas. Troy was raised in both Garrison and Lufkin, Texas and had been a resident of Port Neches since the early 70’s, after he was married.
Troy enjoyed operating Citizens Band (CB) Radios; shade tree auto mechanic work; and raising dogs, pigeons, and doves. He also served his communities with nearly 40 years of service in the grocery industry, the last 12 of which were at HEB Pantry in Groves. Troy would always lend a helping hand to his family. He was there for his daughters and was overjoyed when he became a Papa. He will be remembered as a hardworking, loving, surviving miracle.
Survivors include his daughters, Kimberly Philen and her husband, Michael, of Bridge City and Alicia Montondon and her husband, Michael, of Port Neches; grandchildren, Kerrah Cappel of Bridge City, Alexis and Gavin Montondon of Port Neches; sister, Linda Fenley of Spring; and eighteen nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, and great-great nieces/nephews.
Troy is preceded in death by his parents, Willie J. and Ruby Kerr; brothers, W.J. Kerr, Jr. and W. Langston Kerr; and his granddaughter, Kelcee’ Cyerrah Cappel.
A gathering of Mr. Kerr’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 1826 Nall Street, Port Neches. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at First United Methodist Church. A committal service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at Bethel Cemetery, 429 Happy Lane, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965.
