Socorro Gonzalez was born on July 15, 1933 and died on August 5, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents Anastacio and Hermelinda Avilez, daughter Dianna Isam, son David Gonzalez, and son-in-law Charlie Cessac. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jose Mercedes Gonzalez and children Jose and Donna Gonzalez, Jerry Isam, Gina Cessac, Lisa and Mark Fiorenza, Rita and Oran Day, Tina and John Cannatella, and Sonia Sanderson.

She was Maw Maw “G” to 24 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, aunt to many nieces and nephews, sister to three surviving siblings, but most important she was Mama to the masses.  It’s hard to express how we feel about losing our beautiful mother, words fail to do her justice. She was surrounded by her family, friends, rosary, prayer books, and her statues of the Blessed Mother during her last days. She shared stories about her extraordinary, memory filled, 84 year life; we laughed a lot and cried more. She was a devoted Catholic and loving friend, a tamale and burrito making connoisseur with the love of her life of over 60 years.

She was an angel on this earth and if you spoke with her you left with a sense of peace and happiness.  She wanted for nothing and always made sure her daily prayers included everyone. She rose each day and would  pray the rosary for her family and strangers alike, so it was fitting that the last words to pass her lips were the Our Father and Hail Mary.

Through and through Mama was a family woman. During her last days she made sure her loved ones were filled with enriching advice. She said that we are always to love one another and to pray everyday, because with God you have everything and without Him you have nothing. Pray until you cannot pray anymore and then pray again she said, because one day you will not be able to. Never forget your family and take care of one another, your family will lift you in ways others can’t.  She was thankful for the life she lived and the kids God blessed her with. Her life will be remembered as a message to love, and love with everything you have.

We can only imagine the joy she will experience upon her arrival to heaven as she is greeted by her loved ones. As a child her favorite thing to do was swing in her backyard.  Until we meet again Mama, swing high with your hair blowing in the wind, sunshine on your face, smiling from ear to ear, and laughing with the pure joy of Christ.

The family of Mrs. Gonzalez will receive friends tonight, Tuesday, August 8, 2017, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Grammier Oberle Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 6:00. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2017at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
