BEAUMONT — The Lamar women’s soccer team has rescheduled its weekend game at LSU.
The Cardinals and Tigers, who had been slated to play on Sunday, will now square off at 7 p.m. Friday at LSU Soccer Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
The Cardinals were originally scheduled to host Southern Mississippi on Friday evening, but that contest was postponed due to the heavy rains predicted from the approach of Hurricane Harvey.
“LSU didn’t have a game scheduled for Friday, so we were able to reschedule our game,” LU coach Steve Holeman said. “The weather should be good on Friday night in Baton Rouge. The forecast didn’t look too good for Sunday.”
The Cardinals are 2-0 on the season, opening the year with a 6-0 victory over Southern and a 3-1 win over Louisiana last weekend. LSU is 2-0 on the season, posting a 5-0 home win over Mississippi Valley State and a 3-0 road victory at Colgate.
The Cardinals swept the Southland Conference player of the week honors for the first time since 2011. Junior forward Kelso Peskin was the SLC Offensive Player of the Week, junior midfielder Juliana Ocampo was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while senior Lauren Lovejoy was tabbed as the Goalkeeper of the Week.
Peskin had a goal and four assists over the weekend, Ocampo had a goal and two assists, while Lovejoy posted a 0.50 goals-against average with one shutout and a save percentage of .857. Peskin’s four assists have her tied for second in the nation after the opening weekend of the season.
LU’s next scheduled home game is 7 p.m. Sept. 15 vs. Nicholls in the Southland Conference opener for both teams.
