Andrew Landry kept his chances alive to finish No. 1 on the Web.com Tour money list Friday, but Chris Stroud took a step back in the PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs by missing the cut in the first event.

Landry, who saw three of the four people closest to him on the money list miss the cut in the Portland (Oregon) Open, shot a one-under-par 70 for a 36-hole total of 139 that left him tied for 36th.

The Port Neches-Groves ex had four birdies and three bogeys and was never under par. He birdied the par 5, 18th hole on the Witch Hollow Course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. Of the top 10 on the money list, Landry was one of only five to make the cut. The biggest threats to him appear to be Adam Schenk, who was tied for third at the 36-hole mark, Sam Ryder, who was T9, and Abraham Ancer who was T19. Landry’s goal on the weekend will be to move as many places as he can.

Stroud, meanwhile, wasted a sizzling start that saw him birdie 5 of his first 6 holes in the Northern Trust Open at Glen Oaks Golf Club in Westbury, New York. Needing to finish the first 36 holes 2-over to make the cut, Stroud was 4 under for the day and 1-under for the tournament after his birdie binge.

Bogeys on the next two holes and a double bogey at 18 — he started on the back nine — quickly let the air out, however. One shot over the cut line at the turn, he was unable to make any birdies the rest of the way. Bogeys at 1 and 4 left him three shots off the cut line.

An added consequence of not making the cut was that Stroud dropped nine places to No. 80 in FedEx Cup points. He is assured of playing in round two next week in Boston but will have to climb 10 places to advance to the third round.
