BEAUMONT — Lamar seniors Lauren Lovejoy and Marie Lund were recipient of weekly Southland Conference women’s soccer awards, the SLC office announced Tuesday.

Lovejoy was named the Goalkeeper of the Week, while Lund was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week after the Cardinals posted a pair of shutout victories at the UTRGV Tournament, defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0 and the host Vaqueros 1-0.

Lovejoy picked up the shutout in both games, lowering her goals-against average to 1.00 and boosting her save percentage to .786. Lovejoy, who was named to the all-tournament team, leads the Southland Conference with three shutouts this season. It’s the second time this season Lovejoy was named Goalkeeper of the Week. She received the honor in Week 1 after wins over Southern and Louisiana. Lovejoy has been named Goalkeeper of the Week three times in her LU career.

Lund played a key role on defense in LU’s two wins and contributed on offense by scoring the game’s only goal in the 1-0 victory over UTRGV, as she tallied on a header off of a corner kick. It was the first game-winning goal of her career. The award is the first weekly honor of her career.

The Cardinals (4-2) are off to the best start in the 11-year history of the program. LU is scheduled to wrap up non-conference play with a pair of road contests this week. The Cardinals are at Texas Southern at 7 p.m. Thursday and at the University of Houston at 5 p.m. Sunday. The next home game for the Cardinals is 7 p.m. Sept. 15 vs. Nicholls State at the LU Soccer Complex in the Southland Conference opener for both teams.
