A Port Arthur radio station got a $30,000 breath of fresh air after the Port Arthur City Council decided to do business with them for the Fiscal Year 2017-2018.
The decision was made at their regular meeting on Tuesday morning.
The council authorized a public broadcast agreement between The Breeze KSAP-107.1 LPFM radio station and the city, not to exceed $30,000.
The Breeze will use the funds to upgrade and maintain its transmitter and equipment so the quality of transmission can be preserved and maintained.
The council also extended the declaration of disaster and emergency of the Texas Government Code.
The declaration was made on Aug. 24. Texas Government Code states a declaration of local disaster may not be continued or renewed for a period of more than seven days except with the consent of the governing body.
The resolution read the city council deemed it in the best interest of the citizens of Port Arthur to extend the declaration an additional seven days beyond the expiration of the original declaration.
The council also voted to contract with the county to repair roads, and for shrubbery and weed control on Pleasure Island. The city does not have the labor or equipment suited for such construction and/or maintenance.
The council approved a change order between the city and Allco, LLC of Beaumont for the Port Acres Wastewater Treatment Plant Rehabilitation Project. The contract was decreased by $164,456 to a new contract of $2,521,727.
They also agreed to remind citizens of their responsibilities to comply with litter, solid waste and trash ordinances. The notice will be placed in residents’ water bill describing their responsibilities by Oct. 1.
