VIDOR — On Wednesday at approximately 7:40 a.m., the Vidor Police Department Dispatch Center received several calls in reference to a blue Dodge truck driving recklessly southbound on N. Main Street.

An officer observed the vehicle go through the red light at Highway 105 and Highway 90. Officers were able to get behind the blue Dodge in the 600 block of S. Main at which time they activated their emergency lights. The Blue Dodge began to accelerate on S. Main Street. The truck reached speeds of up to 85 miles per hour. The driver left the roadway just south of Old Spanish Trail on S. Main Street and rolled over. According to the police chief, the truck ended up right side up. The driver was unrestrained.

The driver was extricated from the vehicle by Orange County ESD No. 1 and transported to a landing zone for Acadian Air One. The driver was transported to Hermann Memorial in Houston in serious condition.

While officers were out with the driver following the accident, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the child’s mother reporting that her vehicle was taken by her 10-year-old son. It appears the child was upset over a disciplinary issue and took the vehicle. This incident is under investigation.
