Saturday’s perfect weather made for a beautiful day to go to the Pecan Festival in Groves on Saturday and have some fun.
Linda Park was working the booth for the Port Arthur Sertoma Club. They were selling boudain balls, Cajun eggrolls and blooming onions.
She said business has been great. Sertoma’s net proceeds go to benefit Tropical Storm Harvey relief efforts.
“We go to all the benefits. We’re here to help,” Park said.
Rick and Lana Pritchette, and their dog, Abby, live on nearby Hogaboom Road and visit the festival every year.
“We come here to eat good food and look at all the booths. We’re too old to ride the rides,” Lana said. “We come here to sponsor Groves. Groves is small, but a nice town.”
Jill Beckham with Jilly Bean came all the way from Magnolia. She attends the festival nearly every year.
She sells ladies lace apparel and accessories she called “kinda vintage.”
She said business has been slow for her, perhaps because of Harvey.
“I think it will pick up though,” she said. “I’m looking forward to tonight with an increase in traffic. I thank everyone for coming out when it’s so cold.”
Kandis Hodgkinson said with such beautiful weather, she, her sister, and nieces, just had to come out.
They plan to mingle, eat the food, particularly turkey legs and funnel cakes and ride some rides.
