Astros fever highlights Houston stops

My husband ate only geletin all day to prep for a medical test in Houston. Something went hinky and he had to gel for a second day straight.

I tried to show solidarity by eating foods he’s not really into. A friend invited us to a birthday lunch at Luby’s and I just had the kale salad.

We sat by the hotel pool and he had green Jell-O while I spread a paper sack out to enjoy Central Market finds. There was hard, white cheese. Sure I ate in front of him, but hey, that is not his favorite kind of cheese.

I popped open a can of snails. We loved snails nightly on our one and only cruise. But hey, those were drenched in butter and garlic and served in a beautiful atmosphere. These little guys had a lot less personality right out of the can.

He got the test and headed for Black Walnut, an elegant stop in Rice Village. He enjoyed migas, creamy coffee and pumpkin pie.

But here’s the ticket. I was still being super-good for a Weight Watchers weigh in. I enjoyed samples of all these indulgences, but did not go overboard. So, win-win.

Astros fever was an added bonus while visiting Houston. Folks dug out T-shirts from years past and even getting in an elevator was cause for a perky Go Astros conversation.

Galaxy desserts

All I can say is Google galaxy desserts. I have not seen any in person, but I’m already star crazy for this trend. I’d describe coatings and toppings on doughnuts, cookies, cupcakes, etc. to be dark blue with swirls and crystals that put one in mind of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry, Starry Night.”

Sounds Good: High Brow

It’s amusing to see Halloween makeup featured when cobalt mascara and neon purple lips are the fashion year-round.

I grew up in an era when thick eyebrows were downplayed and now “bold” brows are the thing. Remember “The Good Wife” TV series? Everyone wanted the look those actresses carried and Dermelect Cosmeceuticals has the tools to make it easy. You may be surprised that there are multiple steps, but they’re all easy.

Brow Transformer & Revitalite Brow Lift are attractively-packaged double-ended tools to enhance sparse or thinning brows. The lift is a defining and highlighting crayon. One side gets swept, dabbed and blended above the brow arch and the other tip goes below. I love the feel of the Transformer with an angled tip to fill in Oak Brown or Ashe Blonde colors; you order your preference. The brush of the “spooley” to sculpture your work feels soft and feathery. Now you’re good to go for the office, dinner or anywhere else. Be “The Good Wife!”
