PREP ROUNDUP: Wesley’s 27 gives Titans strong start at Summer Creek

HOUSTON — Thailan Wesley might have taken his game to a higher level to start his senior season.
Wesley netted 27 points and Michael Ford knocked down all three of his three-point attempts, helping Port Arthur Memorial take a 71-61 basketball win at Summer Creek on Monday night.
Ford finished with 11 points and Tyler Guidry added 10 points in the win for the Titans (1-0), who were 5A regional quarterfinalists last February. Sabine Pass transfer Jamyus Jones and sophomore Nathan Clover were named the Titans’ defensive standouts of the game.
Memorial will host Houston Scarborough at 1 p.m. Saturday.

LITTLE CYPRESS — How do you get the season started?
If you’re Edsel Damo, hit six three-point baskets.
Damo finished with 27 points, leading the Port Neches-Groves Indians (1-0) to an overtime victory in Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s new gymnasium known as “The Grove.”
The game was tied at 49 at regulation. Damo had 16 of his points in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Drake Rojas hit eight points and Brandon Petix six for the Indians.
Braden Bridges led LCM (0-1) with 24 points, including four treys and 10-of-10 free-throw shooting. His three-point attempt at the end of regulation would not fall.
Christian Weatherly added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
The Indians will be off until next Tuesday when they host Andre Boutte’s West Brook team at 1 p.m.
Bob Hope 74, Sabine Pass 51
SABINE PASS — Jay Daigle scored 25 points, Chris May finished with 20, and the Eagles (1-0) came up with a big 23-point win on the road.
No statistics for Sabine Pass (0-1) were available.
GIRLS
Deer Park 30, Memorial 25
In Port Arthur, Julia Sion shot 6 of 9 from the floor, but the Titans (1-2) dropped their second home game of the season to a former District 21-6A rival.
Sion finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Jackie Gibbs added five points for Memorial.
Alanyss Castillo led Deer Park with 17 points. She made both of her three-point attempts.
Memorial will take on Aldine Nimitz in the Aldine Invitational at 7 p.m. Thursday.

PORT NECHES — Strong defense nearly helped the Indians (1-1) earn a big win at home.
Harlee Barnwell had three steals to go with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Holly Jones led the defensive effort with four steals, and Mollee Priddy, who scored 11 points, swiped two.
Chelsea Carrillo, Maylin Stampley and Jones each had seven points.
PNG will play West Brook to start the Nederland Bulldog Classic at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
