NEDERLAND — There’s one form of waste resulting from Tropical Storm Harvey that may not top the immediate needs list but needs to be picked up all the same.
The Nederland City Council approved picking up e-waste, or electronic waste, by DRC Emergency Services, LLC. E-waste consists of things like computer printers, TV monitors and so on and it is separated from white waste such as refrigerators.
City Manager Chris Duque said it was an oversight by the company not to initially include e-waste. A price was agreed upon by DRC and the city of $35 per unit.
Residents have been advised to put out their e-waste and it’s pending to be picked up.
The city, the Nederland Economic Development Corporation and Judice’s restaurant agreed to an infrastructure agreement.
The restaurant will be built adjacent to The Landing development at the Jack Brooks Regional Airport. This is a separate infrastructure agreement from the one that was made between the NEDC and Jefferson County and Judice’s.
Judice’s also has a lease agreement with the county. Duque said the arrangement is similar to The Landing. The NEDC fronts the money and Jefferson County reimburses through taxes.
A Nederland firefighter is on extended military leave and the city council agreed to create a temporary position to create an eligibility list.
Duque said it’s a manpower issue and the department is using too much overtime, creating issues for the city.
