What’s with the political statement on the field?

I have debated with myself if I should write this letter or not for several weeks. But there are two items I feel that need to be discussed.

The first item concern Lumberton High School’s football team. On Oct. 7, Memorial hosted them in a football game. When their team took the field, they came out with about four United States flag and one blue lives matter flag. That blue lives matter flag is a political statement.

I went home after the game to see if it would be mentioned on the local media or newspapers. Nowhere was it ever mentioned. Then I noticed on Channel 6 on Friday Night Tailgate Party whenever they showed Lumberton they always come out with the blue lives matter flag.

Now, let’s go back about three years. One of the Beaumont high schools, either Central or Ozen, I don’t remember which; their band did a parody of President Bush (43) which is a political statement. That skit not only made television news but it made the local newspapers as well. There was even talk that Texas UIL should put the school on probation. My question is, why is it alright for one public school to make a political statement week after week with no repercussion and another school to do something one time and get threatened with probation?

My second item is from a former neighbor of ours. A nice young lady my wife and I love and hold in high regard now lives in Orangefield. On Sept. 25, she wrote on her Facebook page that she has lived through seven presidents and she has not seen a president more ridiculed or disrespected that Donald Trump.

My question is, where has she been the past eight years? Was she on a desert isle with seven castaways? President Obama was hanged and burned in effigy. His wife has been called an ape, a man and other derogatory names. Even one of our former local school superintendents said President Obama was no president of his.

Congressman Randy Weber compared him to Hitler. Even President Trump, who claims to be one of the most intelligent people on the planet (his words), was saying Mr. Obama was not born in the United States. As long as one parent is an American citizen, then that child is a United States citizen, even if he’s born in Timbuktu. If what I am saying isn’t true, than Rafael Edward (Ted) Cruz could not have run for president. His father was Cuban and he was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. One of the most intelligent people on earth would know that.

President Trump brings the ridicule upon himself. He lies about how he has contacted every Gold Star family since he’s been in office. When these families come out and say they never heard from him, his staff then send letters out. He tries to ridicule Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) who was a Vietnam prisoner of war for seven years. He served his country with honor. He did not get some doctor to say he had bone spurs in his foot to keep him out of the military. If you’re wondering about me, I volunteered to serve from June 1972 — June 1975 in the United States Army.
