Come hungry, come joyful, come ready for a festive time — a local library is getting ready to serve the community with food, music and holiday-themed delights.
Hebert Public Library is hosting its second annual “A Tasteful Evening” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at its location on 2025 Merriman St. in Port Neches. It’s a free food-tasting event that is open to the public.
“We’ve got around 25 restaurants participating,” Lisa Wappler, librarian assistant, said. She acknowledged that it was an increase from the first year’s outing. “Along with that is fun entertainment.”
The Harmony Exporters and the Indian Singers will provide live music for the event.
“We’re going to have Santa mingling among the guests,” Wappler said. “He’ll be there for photo opportunities, and there will be a place for kids to greet Santa.”
According to Wappler, first year’s attendance was around 200 people, an excellent turnout that surprised library staff. As a result, staff is anticipating even more people for this year’s event.
Wappler said staff would close the library at noon Friday in order to move furniture and prepare the space for the night’s festivities.
“It’s a community event meant to bring the community together and to start the Christmas holidays,” she said.
A wide range of cuisine will be available at the food-tasting event including boudin balls, Mexican food, barbeque and cookies. In addition, there will be several door prizes for lucky guests.
“Everyone will be a winner whether it’s through free food or something else,” Wappler said.
