Orange native Reeves 16th in American Open Finals

Orange native and Little Cypress-Mauriceville graduate Erica Reeves placed 16th of 35 scoring contestants this past weekend in the 63-kilogram (139-pound) weight class at the American Open Finals in Anaheim, California.

Reeves, co-owner of the CrossFit Beaumont gym, finished with a total of 176 kilograms (388 pounds). She lifted 178.5 pounds in the snatch and 209.5 in the clean and jerk. The winning total was 201 kilograms (443.1 pounds) by Janelle Shafer.

Reeves’ teammate, Port Neches-Groves assistant volleyball and girls track and field coach Brittany Fruge, placed 43rd of 53 who scored in the 69-kilogram (152-pound) division. Fruge lifted 381.4 pounds total — 161 pounds in the snatch and 220.4 in the clean and jerk.

Meredith Alwine, 19, had the winning total of 214 kilograms (471.8 pounds) in Fruge’s division.
