A Nederland woman was robbed at gunpoint while dropping her son off at her mother’s home in Port Arthur Tuesday.

The suspect, who was described as small in stature, possibly between 5-foot-1 to 5-foot-3, brandished a weapon at the victim sometime before 8 a.m. in the 4700 block of Evergreen Drive in the Griffing Park area of Port Arthur, police said.

Although he demanded some of the woman’s property, he received nothing, Port Arthur Police Lt. Martin Blitch said. The suspect then ran away from the woman.

A rumor circulating on Facebook Tuesday stated the suspect fled on a school bus but no one reported actually seeing this occur, Blitch said.

Another part of the rumor stated that the suspect’s gun was found almost two miles away near 39th Street and Rachel Avenue, but police said that was also false.

Blitch said there was a call to police about a juvenile with a gun in that area but neither the juvenile nor the gun was found.
