Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs free kids fishing event set for Saturday

NEDERLAND — The Nederland Rotary Club’s 17th Annual Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs is set for this Saturday at Doornbos Park.
The event is open to area youth up to age 14. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and fishing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. You may preregister at Doornbos Park Recreation Center, 2301 Ave. H.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will stock the pond with over 500 rainbow trout for the event.
Prizes will be warded in four categories; ages four and under, ages five and six, ages seven through 10 and ages 11 through 14. Some of the prizes include rods and reels, bicycles and skateboards. You must be present to win. The prizes are provided by BASF, Walmart and Academy.
The Nederland Police Department will be on hand with various displays and demonstrations and the Nederland Fire Department will have fire trucks on display. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will be doing a fly by and landing the department helicopter on site for the children to view.
Fishing will be open to the public starting at noon on Saturday.
