PAISD to name football coach Thursday

A successor to Kenny Harrison as Memorial’s head football coach and athletic co-coordinator is expected to be named during Thursday evening’s Port Arthur ISD board meeting at the Memorial High cafeteria.

Harrison on Feb. 14 announced his decision to resign from the dual role to accept the same jobs at Humble Summer Creek. He posted a 69-36 record in nine seasons, winning shares of the District 22-5A championship each of the past two seasons. Memorial went 9-2 this season and made it to the 5A Region III semifinal round, where the Titans lost to Temple on a last-minute touchdown in Prairie View.

The school district has not released a list of finalists, but interviews were being conducted Monday and Tuesday.

Thomas Brooks, Memorial’s defensive ends coach the past two seasons, has been in charge of the football team since Harrison’s resignation.  Boys basketball coach Kenneth Coleman is presently the only athletic coordinator in the district.
