THIBODAUX, La. — The Lamar University Cardinals saw their hopes for a Southland Conference Tournament bid come to an end as the host Nicholls State Colonels rallied for a 10-8 win in an SLC softball game Saturday afternoon.

Nicholls (38-13, 21-6) wrapped up the Southland Conference regular-season crown and the top seed in the Southland Conference Tournament that gets underway Tuesday at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Nicholls rallied for the win by scoring seven unanswered runs after the Cardinals took an 8-3 in the top of the fourth.

The Cardinals pounded out 12 hits on the day, knocking Nicholls ace Megan Landry out of the game after three-plus innings. Landry, who entered the game with a 1.66 ERA, was tagged for seven hits and six runs, all earned.

It’s just the second time in the six years since softball returned to LU that the Cardinals have missed the conference tournament. Saturday’s game marked the final game for three LU seniors: Amie Cisneros, Laura Napoli and Corina Thornton.
