David Green was the first boys basketball head coach at Port Arthur Memorial. Now, he has been named the first to that position at Beaumont United High School.

Green spent the past seven years at North Shore in the Galena Park ISD, leading the Mustangs to the 5A state championship in 2014. Green was Memorial’s head coach from 2002-06 and was also head coach at Fort Bend Hightower.

The 2013-14 North Shore team went 33-3 and was led by current University of Texas guard Kerwin Roach II. Green led North Shore this past season to a 26-10 overall mark and 12-2 record in District 21-6A, finishing as runner-up to Atascocita. North Shore reached the area round of the 6A playoffs.

The Beaumont ISD also announced Thursday that Tammy Walker-Brown will be United’s first girls basketball head coach. Brown held the position at Ozen the past 13 years, having successfully defended the District 22-5A title and posted a 26-6 mark (13-1 in 22-5A). Ozen made it to the 5A area round.

Beaumont United will begin classes in August on the present Ozen campus, as a result of the Central-Ozen merger. Central coach and Memorial graduate RaShonta LeBlanc was hired earlier this month as Temple’s head coach.
