Roy Mitchell was born on March 16, 1930 and went to meet his Savior on June 3, 2018.  Mr. Mitchell served in the United States Army as Sergeant-First Class, 82nd Airborne.  He married his high school sweetheart, Pearl Esther Thomas, on December 31, 1952 and Roy and Pearl were married for 65 years. During his military career, Mr. Mitchell served in Germany, Japan, North Carolina, and moved to Nederland, Texas after service.  He attended Lincoln Business School where he earned his draftsman certification.  Mr. Mitchell eventually settled his family in the El Vista community in Port Arthur, built a custom home and raised ten children.  He worked as a carpenter at Ameripol-Synpol and served as Union Steward for the Carpenter’s Local Union; and built and remodeled homes and businesses around Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Cheeks, Texas.  At the time of his death, he was a faithful member of Thomas Boulevard Church of Christ. Mr. Mitchell was previously a member of El Vista Church of Christ. He also served as Elder and taught bible classes at the 11th Street Church of Christ in Beaumont, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ples and Lou Ida Mitchell and Levi and Cora White; brothers, Ples “Buddy” Mitchell, Jr., Dave Mitchell, Wesley Mitchell; special first cousins, Mary Franklin and “Uncle” Raymond; sisters, Viola Rivers and Geraldine Mitchell, and his daughter, Ramona Gail Mitchell Jenkins.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his loving wife, Pearl Esther, sister, Cora Cormier Carter and children, Pamela Wise, Roy Anthony “Tony” (Ethel Annette) Mitchell, Glenda Fisk, Rozlyn Guillory, Cheryl Gibbs, Kimberly (Trent) Smith, Raymond Todd Mitchell, Ghengis (Genean) Mitchell, and Eryca Mitchell; twelve grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, and a special family friend, Anthony Craig Landry.

Special thanks to the entire staff of the Beaumont Health Care Center and to Dr. Essam Malaty and his gracious staff.   Heartfelt appreciation is also extended to the Thomas Boulevard Church of Christ for their love and support.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Thomas Boulevard Church of Christ with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
