Port Arthur Police are investigating the discovery of a highly decomposed body on Pleasure Island on Wednesday.
Police responded shortly after 4:30 p.m. to an area near the South Levee Road on the island.
PAPD Lt. Bubba Blitch told media on scene that a man had reported finding the body and that the body had been there “quite some time.”
The remains appears to be that of a female but police cannot say for sure at this time.
PAPD Crime Scene Unit and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit were on scene, police said.
Detectives will check a missing persons database to see if it matches the person found.
The area where the body was found is on a dirt road about 50-yards from the South Levee Road and is home to alligators, wild dogs and hogs.
There is no evidence of foul play but this is being treated as a crime scene.
