MEN’S BASKETBALL: UT releases nonconference schedule

AUSTIN — A trio of home contests against Purdue, Providence and VCU and a Thanksgiving week trip to participate in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational highlight the 2018-19 University of Texas men’s basketball non-conference schedule released Thursday.
Texas will play a total of nine non-conference home games at the Frank Erwin Center this upcoming season.
 
The Big 12 Conference schedule has not been finalized at this time. Tipoff times and the complete television schedule for the 2018-19 season will be announced when available.
 
The Longhorns open the regular season with a home game against Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Texas then head to Fort Bliss in El Paso to face Arkansas in the Armed Forces Classic on Friday, Nov. 9.
 
UT hosts Louisiana-Monroe (Monday, Nov. 12) and The Citadel (Friday, Nov. 16) as part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational regional round. The Longhorns travel to participate in the championship round of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23. In addition to Texas, the four-team event held at Orleans Arena includes Michigan State, North Carolina and UCLA. Matchups and pairings for the games in Las Vegas have not been determined.
 
Texas then returns for a six-game home stand for the remainder of November and all of December. The Longhorns host Radford (Friday, Nov. 30), VCU (Wednesday, Dec. 5), Purdue (Sunday, Dec. 9), Grand Canyon (Saturday, Dec. 15), Providence (Friday, Dec. 21) and UT Arlington (Friday, Dec. 28).
 
The Longhorns open Big 12 league action during the first week of the New Year. UT will step out of league play on Saturday, Jan. 26for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, traveling to face Georgia in Athens.
