Port Arthur police have identified a woman whose body was dumped on Pleasure Island earlier this month as Kristen Balismo.

PAPD Deputy Chief Martin “Bubba” Blitch said Balismo was positively identified and her family has been notified. The victim is from the area. Her age was not immediately available.

Blitch said police are continuing to follow leads on the case.

Police have not said if the victim was killed on the island or killed elsewhere and her body brought there.

Police were initially called to a remote road off Texas 82 in Pleasure Island on June 13 after a motorist found the badly decomposed body of a woman. A preliminary autopsy report showed the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head.
