Port Neches police said a toddler’s condition remained unchanged in a Galveston hospital Monday, following a Sunday mishap in an above-ground pool at a private residence.

Police Chief Paul Lemoine said in an issued statement that police were dispatched to the 2500 block of 15th Street around 5:45 p.m. Sunday. There a child about 21/2 years old had been playing with several other children in an above-ground pool when he went missing.

Adults pulled the child from the water and began lifesaving efforts. First-responders were on the scene working on the child when police arrived.

The toddler was rushed to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, then to Galveston for treatment Sunday.

On Monday, Lemoine said he spoke with the father around 1:15 p.m.

“They are at Texas Children’s Hospital and there is no change in the child’s status,” Lemoine said. “The family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers from the community. We are not releasing any names or the address at this time.”
