BASEBALL: Roccaforte, Bost, Kemp earn writers’ All-State nods

The Texas Sports Writers Association have etched Carson Roccaforte’s name on its All-State second-team list.

Roccaforte, a sophomore during the 2018 season, was one of three Mid County baseball players to earn such an accolade from the writers. Recent PNG graduate Austin Bost and Nederland upcoming senior Conner Kemp earned honorable mention.

The writers’ 5A All-State teams were released Friday.

Roccaforte smashed seven home runs and drove in 31 runs for the Indians. He batted .357 with a .696 slugging percentage and scored 31 runs.

Bost, who will play at Panola College next spring, hit .462 and slugged .688. He scored 38 runs, drove in 13 and homered once.

Left-hander Kemp was stellar on the mound for the District 22-5A champion Bulldogs. He went 8-2 with a 1.207 ERA, earned three saves and struck out 60 in 58 innings.

The 5A teams were announced a day after the writers’ 4A honorees were revealed. Bridge City’s Logan Hamm was named third-team reliever and honorable mention third baseman, while teammate Caleb DuBois earned third-team first baseman.

Two Little Cypress-Mauriceville players, second baseman Jordan Alexander and third baseman Michael Lee, made 4A honorable mention.
